Drugs

What is herbal ecstasy? Don’t ask us. It’s a catch-all term to describe a mix of dried herbs sold over the counter. Typically labeled as a “natural high,” herbal ecstasy usually contains ephedrine, an amphetamine-like stimulant. Supplements containing ephedra, the herb ephedrine has been derived from, have been illegal for sale since 2004.

Ephedrine can be addictive over a long period of use. More concerningly are its side effects; while legal, ephedrine can cause many of the same symptoms illicit stimulants can, including heart attacks and strokes. Plus, like synthetic weed, there’s no guarantee of safety when buying products like this.
