Call the number on the back of your Medicaid card
There will be a member services or customer service phone number. Wait times on the phone might be long. For the best chance of connecting with someone try calling early in the morning.

Connect with a representative
Once connected with a representative, let them know what services you are inquiring about (mental health/substance abuse). If beds are full or there’s no capacity, ask about different options. Check if there’s a facility with more beds, different county, other phone numbers you can call, etc.

Screening/assessment
If applicable, complete their mental health/substance abuse screening/assessment.

Follow directions
Follow the customer service/member service rep's directions to obtain referral.
